Participants Demonstrating Patriot Defense Exercises

The Patriot Defense Self-Defense Training Program offers students the opportunity to learn the basics of self-defense in a professional and safe environment.  The goal of the program is to teach students the skills necessary to escape from an attacker in the most efficient way possible.  The program stresses the principles of self-defense rather than have the students memorize a long list of specifically defined techniques.

The classes are free one-day classes that are offered each semester, including the summer.  Students will also receive a resource CD to assist them in continuing their training.

The program is sponsored by the University Police in cooperation with the Herrington Patriot Center and the University Wellness and Prevention Education Department.  The classes are taught by UT Tyler staff members who are also trained self-defense instructors.
