The Model United Nations Program at the University of Texas at Tyler was established in 2007. The program was designed to bring about awareness of both the inner workings of the United Nations and provide vast knowledge of global affairs. The program was designed for both undergraduate (junior and senior) and graduate students of all fields of study. Students participating in the Model UN Program may gain 3 or 6 credit hours while acquiring theoretical foundation and practical experience to both undergraduate and graduate students. The Model United Nations class provides general knowledge and understanding of the United Nations, its policies, procedures, functions, and goals. Whereas, the Model United Nations Conferences build a foundation for future leaders through the development of analytical, problem solving, policy development skills by utilizing the art of diplomacy and negotiation. The National Model United Nations Conference is one of the most distinguished and well recognized conferences for university students. It provides an understanding of the United Nations and contemporary problems through experience-based learning opportunities. Even though the program is particularly geared toward preparation for the NMUN Conferences, it also provides preparation for regional, national and/or international Model United Nations Simulations.
