This Month at UT Tyler
When I became president of The University of Texas at Tyler on January 1, I was proud to be joining The University of Texas System, one of the best university systems in the nation. I knew I could expect to encounter students, faculty, and staff passionate about teaching, research, and scholarship. I quickly realized that The University of Texas at Tyler is so much more.
UT Tyler is an extraordinary institution committed to being the primary educational and economic driver of East Texas. Our nearly 10,000 students and 1,000 University employees have come from 47 states and 59 countries to achieve their personal and professional goals and are serious about influencing and impacting the region and beyond.
Whether they are developing marketing plans for local businesses, educating patients about new pharmaceutical products, or collaborating with NASA on projects related to the Orion Spacecraft, our students work hard in every aspect of scholarship, and their accomplishments are exceptional.
I have also met faculty who believe in supporting those students, who are leaders in their fields, and who go the distance to help students take full advantage of the opportunities that come during their university years. Our faculty are consistently reaching out to make our excellent programs even better and to meet the workforce needs of this region.
For example, if you have been in a hospital in East Texas you have likely encountered our alumni. Many university programs — including our nationally acclaimed MBA in Healthcare Management and Nursing programs — are providing the medical professionals this region needs.
I have also realized this is a university that stands steadfast in its values, demonstrating to students that honor and integrity matter and that teamwork is integral to success.
In the coming months, I am looking forward to learning more about this university and region and to sharing all the great stories of our students, faculty, and staff with each of you. We will be sending this newsletter once a month to keep you in the know about the great things happening at UT Tyler.
We are glad to have your support as we build a great future for The University of Texas at Tyler and for East Texas!
