UT Tyler Psychology and Counseling

Ph.D. Clinical Psychology

Welcome from the Director of Clinical Training (DCT)

Dr. Dennis Combs, Director of Clinical Training

Thank for your interest in the Ph.D. program in clinical psychology at the University of Texas at Tyler.  Our program was approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board in the Spring of 2018 and our inaugural class was enrolled in the Fall of 2019.  We are entering our 5th year of the program and are working on receiving contingent accreditation from the American Psychological Association.  We are scheduled to undergo our site visit in 2023 so stay tuned for updates on that front!

We have a vibrant program with ample clinical and research opportunities.  We focus on providing a strong foundation in the scientific and behavioral areas of health service psychology.  Students can choose to specialize in veteran’s issues, rural mental health, or geropsychology.   We have an on-campus training clinic and over 30 practicum placements in the area.  Our award winning and nationally known faculty are directly involved in the clinical supervision and research training of our students.  We are committed to diversity and inclusion and we offer additional courses and training in this area.  We truly care about each student and it shows in our program!

We are a scientist-practitioner program with the belief that research and practice are integrated and complementary in nature.  We focus on using evidence-based practices as it applies to treatment and assessment.  Upon graduation, students can work in academic settings, medical schools, or clinical practice agencies or settings.  Our program meets the requirements for licensure as psychologist in Texas.  Our program webpages provide all of the information you will need to apply to our program as well as important information clinical training, research expectations, and financial aid.  If you have further questions, please contact us at ClinPsyPhD@uttyler.edu.
