Fitness Class Descriptions
Aerobics:Looking to have fun and get a great workout? Increase your cardio and burn some calories while dancing and stepping to some great music! We offer a warm up, 30 minutes of cardio training with a muscle toning segment using weights, resistance bands, and fitness balls which focus on arms, abs, glutes, and inner thighs. We end it all with a nice cool down. Hi/lo options shown so every fitness level can enjoy! Primary Instructor: Lisa Cuvelier
Impact Fitness: Are you looking to improve your overall health and fitness? Impact Fitness will help you develop, improve, and/or maintain muscular strength, endurance, balance, and coordination through a total body circuit. Primary Instructor: Kirsti Wallace
Beginning/Intermediate Weight Training: A Great series for the individual who is new to the gym and is looking to progress. Learn the basics of weight training and watch yourself become stronger and more fit. Proper technique is key in the results of weight training. After you learn the basics, move to the advanced weight training class. Primary Instructor: Heidi Grafton
Beginning Mountain Biking: Get geared up for this adventureous outdoor course. Bring you bike and learn the campus trails under the guidance of experienced mountain bikers. Primary Instructor: Chauncey Deller
Core Crunch: A 30minute class will turn that gut into a washboard stomach! This class focuses on the core which includes the abdominal muscles, obliques, and lower back. Combine this class with Joyride for an excellent cardio and toning hour. Primary Instructor: Ben Donnan
Couch to 5K Training: Looking to get in shape through running? If so then this is the class for you! Couch to 5K is a fun way to start running, lose weight, feel great, and improve your overall health! This is a beginner friendly class and it will prepare you for upcoming races. Primary Instructor: Heidi Grafton
Dance Fitness: Come join us for a dance workout targeted at conditioning the whole body! This dance workout will improve your dance technique, increase your flexibility, and strengthen your core. Dance styles to be studied are ballet, jazz, modern, lyrical, ballroom, and more. Get in shape while learning fun dance moves! Primary Instructor: Molly Roberts
Fitness Swim: Interval training using the four competitive swimming strokes: back stroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and freestyle. This class is taught in our heated swimming pool (Jim and Bonna Bess Vaughn Recreation and Therapy Pool). Drills, technique work, and lap swimming will help you become a better swimmer and be in better shape. Primary Instructor: Bob Hepler
Marathon Training: Marathon Training is a fitness class which includes a light group stretch with a mass group start. Students run/jog/jog-walk anywhere from 2-6 miles during the 50-minute period. Information on topics in running are given at the beginning of class and the class typically culminates with a deeper group stretch. Primary Instructor: R.J. Cowan
Athletic Enhancement: Are you in off-season or just looking to imrove you skills? Performance Enhancement will help you increase your agility, speed, power, and reaction time to perform your best.Primary Instructor: Tara Eaton
Pilates: In Pilates mental and physical health are key. This class is an aerobic form of exercise and will use traditional Pilates methods to strengthen the core muscles. Slow concentrated movements paired with breathing techniques have been shown to condition and tighten abdominals, gluts, and thighs and burn calories. This class is Mat Pilates and will focus on alignment, centering, concentration, control, precision, breathing, and flowing movement to achieve balance of body and mind. The mat will be used in general but may also incorporate large and small exercise balls, resistance bands, free weights, and other apparatus. All levels welcome. Primary Instructor: Amelia Harrell
Power Yoga: If gentle stretching and peaceful thoughts are not your thing, then POWER Yoga may be for you. Join us for a vigorous combination of deep stretching, strength and even a little cardio. This is a tough complete workout! Primary Instructor: Bob Hepler
Strength, & Conditioning: This class is a combination of weight resistance and dynamic movements, with emphasis on core strength stability, balance, speed training, and explosion/power training. A perfect way to get in shape quickly, and to prepare your body for athletics, intramurals, or ultimate fitness. Primary Instructor: Chris Stonestreet
Spinning: This full hour of group cycling will challenge you as you get an amazing workout. The class is taught on state of the art stationary bikes with beat pumping music. This exciting class is what you need to get a good sweat going and to get into shape. No coordination required! Primary Instructor: Derek Blain
Taekwon-Do: Taekwon-Do is a Korean martial art that focuses on powerful strikes and kicks as a means to improve physical fitness and develop self-defense skills. The art of Taekwon-Do is most evident in its prearranged patterns called hyungs. A hyung is a set of offensive and defensive movements performed in a sequence against multiple imaginary opponents. Hyungs help to develop balance, speed, focus, timing, endurance, and power. Primary Instructor: Amentahru Wahlrab
Water Zumba: Zumba in the water.
Yoga: The daily stressors of life can leave you feeling sluggish and stressed. This class will help you have more energy so you will be able to take on anything. This class is a great way to increase flexibility, tone, and relax. This class is great for beginners on up to advanced. Primary Instructors: Lisa Cuvelier and Ashlie Cantos
Zumba: This upbeat, energetic, and fun course will get you dancing to your beat. Latin inspired dance fitness cardio based routines feature interval training sessions where fast & slow rhythms and resistance training are combined to tone and sculpt your body while burning fat. Primary Instructors: Manny Beddingfield and Veronic Viesca
