Outdoor Adventures Event Descriptions Spring 2014

Beginner Mountain Bike Rides (Every Friday at 5:00pm)
Every Friday at 5 PM a member of the Rec Sports Staff will lead a beginner friendly mountain bike tour showcasing our 3.5 miles of campus mountain bike trails. Meeting in front of the HPC, the beginner friendly ride will include bike handling technique sessions that will increase your enjoyment and improve your trail riding. If you don't have a bike you can borrow one free of charge for this ride from the Outdoor Adventures Program.

No Registration Required. Just show up in front of the HPC first come first serve.

Group Mountain Bike Rides (Every Monday at 5:00pm)
Every Monday at 5:00 PM a member of the Rec Sports Staff will lead a group mountain bike ride on the campus mountain bike trails. Meeting in front of the HPC, this ride will vary in speed to accommodate its participants. This is a great opportunity to meet others who enjoy riding trails. If you don't have a bike you can borrow one free of charge for this ride from the Outdoor Adventures Program.

No Registration Required. Just show up in front of the HPC.

Bike Repair Clinics (The second Thursday of every month 4-6pm)
The second Thursday of every month from 4:00-6:00pm bring out your bike to the HPC and let us work out any issues you might be having with braking, shifting, or general riding. We'll try to help you out with any basic maintenance and labor free of charge you'll only have to buy any necessary parts to get your ride back on the road.

No Registration Required. Just show up near the HPC front Desk.

Paintball Day Trip (February 22nd at 1pm)

Come spend an afternoon playing paintball with us on February 22nd. Transportation will be provided and it's only $10 for the whole trip. If you were to go by yourself you would end up spending at least $45. Sign up early as this trip will fill up quick. There is a mandatory pre-trip meeting at 7:30pm in the HPC lobby on Wednesday February 19th.

Santa Elena Canyon River Trip in Big Bend National Park (Saturday March 8- Friday March 14th)
Spend your Spring Break in the Big Bend National Park with the Outdoor Adventures Program. We will leave from the HPC at 6am on Saturday March 8th and get back Friday March 14th in the evening. We are planning on running the Santa Elena Canyon on the Rio Grande. The River Portion of our trip will take three days. The remaining two days in the park can be spent visiting the many great lank marks that have made this park a national destination for park goers for years. If you have any doubt about the epic nature of this trip I encourage you to just search for images of "Big Bend" or "Santa Elena Canyon" There is a mandatory pre trip meeting at 7:30 in the HPC lobby on Wednesday March 5th.

All Equipment is provided.

Skydiving Trip (Saturday March 29 at 7:15 am)
You've always wanted to, now's your chance. Get the thrill of jumping out of a plane at 10,000 feet with the safety of a licensed tandem master to bring you safely back to the ground. Transportation is provided. There is a mandatory pre-trip meeting on Wednesday March 5th at 7:30pm in the HPC lobby.


Cost: $150 Students/ $220 non-students

Tri Tyler Half Ironman, Olympic, and Sprint Triathlons (Sunday March 30)
A USA Triathlon sanctioned triathlon is produced by the local race production company, Farris Events. This year's Olympic race is the South Midwest Regional Olympic Distance Championship. As a UT Tyler student or faculty, Farris Events is offering you 20% off your entry for the first 20 individuals to use the promo code utt2014. If you are not a USA Triathlon annual member you will also have to purchase a one day license from USA Triathlon for an additional $12. The races start on March 30th at various times. Sabine River Day Trip (Saturday April 5th at 7am) 
Spend the day paddling down the gentle Sabine River and enjoying the natural east Texas landscape. This is one of the better beginner rivers to practice your canoe paddling skills. Lunch will be provided. There is a mandatory pre-trip meeting on Wednesday April 2nd at 7:30pm in the HPC lobby.

Buffalo River Trial Hiking Trip (April 18th at 9am – April 20th at 6pm)
Spend the weekend hiking in Arkansas with the Outdoor Adventures Department. The format of this trip is to focus on visiting some of the more memorable points in the Ozarks of northern Arkansas. This will be less "backpacking" and more "day hiking" format that will keep the weight off your back to that you can better enjoy the experience of Hiking to some really great locations. There is a mandatory pre trip meeting at 7:30 in the HPC lobby on Wednesday April 16th.

Cost: $35 students/ $70 non-students
