Introduction

Welcome to the Office of Sponsored Research (OSR) at The University of Texas at Tyler.  The OSR is located on the third floor of the main administration building on the UT Tyler campus.  The main objective of the OSR staff is facilitate faculty and staff research and sponsored program productivity.  Faculty and staff at UT Tyler are encouraged to seek external funding for specific projects that further the mission of the university in teaching, research, and public service.  Sponsored projects enhance the educational opportunities available to students, allow ongoing research, scholarly inquiry, and the development of new knowledge, contribute to the academic achievement and stature of the university, and support the university in fulfilling its mission to the state of Texas and to the nation.

It is the responsibility of the faculty or staff member who is authorized to act as a Principal Investigator (PI) on a funded project, to initiate, develop, and prepare proposals. While awards for funded projects are made to the university, the PI is responsible for the management, execution, and completion of the project, including the submission of all required reports that are submitted through the OSR.

The purpose of university research and other sponsored projects conducted at UT Tyler is the discovery and dissemination of new knowledge.  It is the responsibility of the staff in the OSR to aid the PI in these endeavors.

Mission

The mission of the Office of Sponsored Research is to provide effective leadership through the promotion and support of quality research and sponsored programs both within the university and through collaborative efforts with other universities, industries, and businesses.  To this end, the OSR staff provides quality service and administrative support to the university community and represents the interests of the UT System, the President of the university, and the university community in their relationships with external funding agencies and sponsors.
