Storm Water Management Program

The University of Texas at Tyler is in the beginning stages of developing a Storm Water Management Program. As concerned citizens of the City of Tyler, Smith County, and the State of Texas, we must share in the obligation to protect our natural resources.

Special storm water sewers handle storm water, such as rain and snowmelt. On our campus, these sewers discharge into the lakes or under University Boulevard eventually flows downstream into Gilley Greek. If the water carries contaminants such as mud, automobile fluids, fertilizers, pesticides, soaps, or other hazardous materials, the contaminants will be found in our lakes and eventually downstream. Storm sewers on campus are typically found in the lawns and the curbs of our streets. As part of our management program we will be looking for ways to prevent storm water from carrying pollution from our grounds, sidewalks, parking lots, and outside activities into our lakes.

During the coming months this site will be expanding as our Storm Water program is developed.
