PROFESSIONAL/ACADEMIC INTERESTS:

I am Associate Professor in the Political Science division of the Department of Social Sciences at the University of Texas at Tyler.  My primary field of emphasis is political theory.  I was broadly trained in western political theory but take a multidisciplinary approach to the discipline often incorporating literary and historical texts and concerns.  My primary research interest is in contemporary political theory, especially in its intersection with literary theories of text and power.  I am particularly interested in the postcolonial critique of western intellectual and political structures and that critique’s compatibility with the efforts of democratic and multicultural theorists to preserve human rights while honoring cultural diversity.  For samples and a listing of my work respectively, please see the “Research Information” and “CV” links to the left.

TEACHING:

My undergraduate  teaching duties include our courses in political theory and in public law.  The political theory courses I teach are:  Western Political Theory from the Antiquity to the Renaissance; Western Political Theory from the Enlightenment; Contemporary Political Theory; and American Political Thought.  The law courses I teach include American Constitutional Law; The Law of Civil Liberties;  The Judicial System and Process; and Jurisprudence.  I have also taught introductory courses in American Government and Texas Politics.  At the graduate level, I am responsible for our Seminar in Scope and Methods of Political Science; Seminar in Political Theory; and Topics in Political Theory.
