What is a Student Learning Community (SLC)?
SLCs are small groups of students with a common major that take two to five core courses and a weekly student learning community session together. SLC students have the opportunity to quickly make friends and develop a close relationship with UT Tyler faculty and staff.
What is the weekly student learning community session?
The student learning community session is a one-hour, once-a-week class that is co-lead by a Peer Mentor and a faculty or staff mentor. The topics for the session are geared toward concerns that freshman students might have.

Who is eligible to participate?
Students must be officially accepted as a freshman into UT Tyler before being considered for participation in a Student Learning Community. All students with declared majors are invited to participate in the SLC for their department if one is available.
How do I sign up for a Student Learning Community?
To register for a SLC contact the Freshmen Academic Advising Center at 903.565.5718 to set up an appointment. Your academic advisor will assist you in choosing the best Student Learning Community for you.
