"Artist statements are not solid things. The best artist statements are found in a body of artwork. I want my pots to stand as a visual statement without the support of verbiage. In my work you can find all the little things that make my eyes and soul jam. Enjoy the colors, the shine of the glaze, patterns and movement. Reflect on the emotions found in the ware. Fear, hate, confusion, humor and other emotions arise in my work.
Respect for the potter's life process is another hidden gem that only those who work with clay or have witnessed potters understand. I crank out a lot of work. The more I work, the better the work becomes. All potters know that each pot is only a snapshot in a lifetime. The lifetime of work is the only real respectable work of art. This is the way I feel today."
Thanks for your time,
C. W. Block
