"For the last twenty years, Susy and I have had the privilege of working together in a partnership that has proved to be greater than the sum of its parts. Our ideas have bounced back and forth through each of our personal filters, sometimes gathering energy and feeling, turning into something good, sometimes being dropped by the wayside, but always working towards some nebulous ideal piece of work that would speak with eloquence. Our work is made from a common material used in an uncommon way, and we are constantly trying to push the limit of what is possible in our colored clay patterns. We are fortunate to live in a time where it's possible to be able to see things as varied as the patterns that exist in the oldest human rock art and the most microscopic images of cells dividing, and this wealth of stimuli influences our work in unforeseeable ways. Functional forms have provided the vehicle by which we express our interpretations of the universal images that appear in the art of cultures, ancient and modern, from all over the world. Ideally, our clay pieces have a warmth that invites use as well as communicating our search for this thread of human spirit."
