"My work in ceramics reflects a growing understanding of the relevance of sacred myths of many cultures, beyond our contemporary bias, which demonstrates the fertile and life-sustaining balance of opposing forces found in nature. The metamorphosis of clay to art is a mysterious form of alchemy. I have witnessed the basic elements of matter "come alive' during the process of revealing more to me than I ever could have imagined! The pots bear the scarification and blushes of the transformative fire. These vessels are born out of an accumulative history, both geological and human. They speak a universal language as metaphorical medicine bottles, flasks, canteens, offering bowls and libation vessels for spiritual healing, protection and survival. I believe the vessel is one of the most humanitarian icons as it symbolizes physical and spiritual sustenance, initiation and celebration."
