"Spouted Bowl"

Stoneware, Wood-fired, 5" x 5" x 5"

"I make pots that are useful. I try not to impose ideas on my pots but find that for the most part they reflect what I am thinking, feeling, and experiencing at the moment. I want my pots to be unobtrusive and the formal language to be easily understood. I want my pots to integrate with their environment; on the other hand I want them to be familiar enough to allow the user to receive what I intended to give. Indeed, I believe that familiarity through use is the only way my work can be understood.

Recently I have been looking at and thinking about the formal clarity of Staffordshire ware; pots as mediators; contingency as a stimulant; seafood dishes; simple food preparation and service; indulging in the romantic impulse and melancholy; aestheticism; connections betweeen my work and my garden; porosity as an attribute and maybe switching to earthenware."
