Following is a shortlist of the UT Tyler Web page standards for building and designing UT Tyler Websites, using the UT Tyler Template, using Contribute and usage the UT Tyler logo. Failure to follow these guidelines can result in link removal to your site.

  • UT Tyler Offices, colleges, schools, institutes, libraries and programs are considered official UT Tyler sites. Departments should always adhere to the current UT Tyler template, UT Tyler guidelines, and state policies. All are available through the office of News and Information. The header and footer are to remain consistent, the body of the page allows for individuality of the campus unity.

  • A template for your site can be obtained by contacting Robin Kelly, ext. 7061 web@uttyler.edu.

  • Images/graphics/logos, etc. of any nature are not allowed to be downloaded (copied) from the UT Tyler Website and used elsewhere (on the Web, including department sites, printed materials, etc.)  This includes graphics, images and logos the UT Tyler home page, and all inside pages.

  • To obtain UT Tyler images for your site and print use, contact News and Information for access to the UT Tyler Photobucket account or to request a specific image.

  • Please do not attempt to recreate graphics or headers to match other parts of the UT Tyler website. The template is already created and ready for use.
    • By doing so, your site could be subject to removal. The UT Tyler site is to remain as cohesive as possible for visitors to navigate through. There is a specific area in the template provided where you can plug in your own graphics if desired.

  • Logo guidelines are located at www.uttyler.edu/logo.
  • UT Tyler is required to follow specific Web standards to remain in state compliance. The UT Tyler template follows those standards. By using the UT Tyler template exactly as designed, and adding “alt tags” to your images, your department site should remain in compliance with these standards.

  • The UT Tyler template is easy to use, and comes with an online tutorial for Contribute. You can find the step-by-step tutorial for your Contribute questions at http://www.uttyler.edu/news/contribute/

    • Altering the template in any way is NOT allowed.
    • The template should be set up on in your site. Copying the code and recreating the template is not allowed.
  • All images on your site require an “alt tag”. Contribute and Dreamweaver should ask for an “alt tag” when you load your image. Keep your “alt tag” as descriptive as possible according to the photo it is related to.

  • Each user must have their own log-in ID to access the UT Tyler website for updates. Logging in with another person’s ID is against state policy.

  • Please consider download time when developing graphics for your site. Photoshop, Contribute and other software programs optimize images for the Web to keep download time to a minimum.

  • The office of News and Information reviews all proposed, changed, updated official UT Tyler Web pages. To submit your site for review, send your link to web@uttyler.edu. In addition, if you have questions regarding your site, email web@uttyler.edu.

  • If your site is not up to compliance regarding these guidelines, please take whatever steps necessary to bring your site up to standard. If you need assistance, contact Robin Kelly.

  • It is up to each department to keep your Website content up-to-date. Please keep News and Information informed as to who your current Webmaster is for your department.
