One of my hobbies for many years included coaching the softball team that my daughter plays on. Our team is from Kilgore Texas and our name is the Wild Things.

We were Texas ASA State Runnerups in Slowpitch in two different age divisions. The 1994 Wild Things were undefeated in City League Play, State Runnerups in the 10 and Under Age Division, and were invited to play in 10 & Under ASA National Tournament held in Tupelo, Mississippi, where we finished 9th in the nation.

In the Fall of 1995, we gave fastpitch a try in an East Texas League. The 1996 Wild Things went undefeated in our town's fastpitch league, but the girls chose to compete in slowpitch on the District and State level. We finished 2nd in the District Tournament and also were runnerups in the 12 & Under State Tournament, losing to the Marshall Aces in both tourneys. We were invited to and played in the 1996 ASA National Tournament that was held in Gadsden, Alabama.

The Wild Things returned to fastpitch in the Fall of 1996.  In the spring/summer of 1997, we were declared an independent team (due to us having girls from two different school districts on the team) and  played in the 14 & Under League in Henderson Tx.   In 1998,the Wild Things played in the Longview Girls Softball Association in a 14 and Under League and in the Fall of 98 the team played in the 18 and Under Division of the Central East Texas League.

The 1999 season was our last season and the 1999 team was made up of girls from Kilgore, Tatum, and Sabine. I enjoyed each year that I coached the Wild Things and I hope each of the girls that I had the opportunity to coach also enjoyed their experiences. It is now 2003 and most, if not all, of the girls are now out of high school, attending college, and/or working. Hopefully, each of the "Wild Things" will one day look back on their days of being a Wild Thing and smile.
