The Bachelor of
Science in Technology seeks students with an interest in developing
the technological creativity of future generations. Focusing on
innovation, technology, and design, the program prepares a
specialized group of professionals who understand the latest
technologies and processes to foster human creativity and innovation
through design practice, principles, and applications. The program
will interest those who enjoy inventing, creating, solving complex
problems and, in particular, want to foster these abilities in
others. The degree develops students’ creative abilities, through
experiential learning, and provides students with the profound
understandings needed for careers in innovation, technology
development, and design.
The faculty and facilities of The University of Texas at Tyler
provide an exceptional range of professional and academic expertise
and resources to prepare students to integrate theory and practice
and to develop leaders in innovation, technology, and design.
Graduates of this program will be exceptionally prepared to develop
the creative abilities of others in a variety of organizational
contexts.
High school students who have earned university credit for their
Project Lead The Way, or other approved 9 – 12 engineering and
technology, courses can transfer or apply up to 15 hours of their
college credit hours towards the Bachelor of Science of Technology
degree.
Program Objectives
Utilize sketching and computer design knowledge and skills to
enhance
communication, visualization, ideation, optimization,
and evaluation of designs.
Apply their knowledge of design and innovation fundamentals,
principles, and
practices to the creation of human-centered
products.
Integrate mathematics, science, technology, and design knowledge
and skills to
design activities.
Appreciate
the
legal, ethical, professional, and societal expectations of
design
and designers.
Discuss and generate
informed perspectives on the philosophical, ethical, and
professional responsibilities and expectations of innovators,
designers, and
technologists.
Apply tools, equipment, processes, and procedures towards design activities.
Plan and implement
effective experiences that enhance technological creativity
through design.
Develop and maintain
safe, productive, and creative learning environments for
implementing activities in innovation, technology, and design
education.
Appreciate the influence various technologies have and are having on modern life.
Apply research processes typically used in the development of technology.
Apply prototyping
and simulation practices to the development of technological
solutions.
Teacher
Certification
All
students wishing to be certified to teach technology education
(6-12) in Texas public schools must complete the Academic
Foundations, Professional Development, and required technology
courses and meet the requirements described in the Certification
section of the College of Education and Psychology section of this
