Narrative Biography:

 
 

Rita L. Dobbs currently serves as an associate professor in the Department of Human Resource Development and Technology.  She developed the Master of Science in Human Resource Development degree in her first year of service to the university and in year two received a $240,000 grant to place the degree in the online environment through the UT Telecampus.  She has also worked in conjunction with the administration to bring one of the first PhD programs to UT Tyler.  She has developed nine new courses for the Department Human Resource Development and Technology.  Her research interests are distance learning, change and training and development.  She has published as first author in Advances in Developing Human Resources, Journal of Industrial Technology, Quarterly Review of Distance Learning, Visual Communications, International Journal of Instructional Technology and Distance Learning, Human Resource Development Quarterly and Journal of Technology and Teacher Education.  She has presented peer-reviewed, published papers for 30 international conferences.  She has received top honors from international, national and state organizations for her work in distance learning research and curriculum development.  She has authored and administered in excess of $3 million in funded research grants.  She currently serves as a national government consultant for distance learning projects.  She is actively involved in AHRD, ASTD, and AACE and affiliated with seven other professional organizations.
