Health Science Technology Teacher Certification

 

In order to meet the requirements for qualifying for certification in Health Science Technology teacher certification in the Department of HRD and Technology at the University of Texas at Tyler one must:
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Possess licensure, certification, or registration by a nationally recognized accrediting agency as a professional practitioner in one or more health occupations for which instruction is offered. The preparation program for licensure or certification must require at least two years of formal education (click here for examples.)
  • Have two years of approved wage earning experience.
  • Complete the following courses:

    Instructional Improvement in CATE

    HRD 5332

    Analysis and Course-making

    HRD 5313

    Organization & Management of the Instructional Environment

    HRD 5328

    Topics in Technical Programs

    HRD 5333

    Human Relations

    TECH 5370

    Internship in Technology


    • Hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning.
    • Successfully complete of the PPR TExES examination.
    • Successfully complete of the HSTE TExES examination.
    • Attend the Summer Health Science Technology Education Professional Development Conference and the Health Science Technology Education Fall New Teacher/Mentor Training Workshop.

Upon receipt of the application materials, a Department of HRD and Technology member will evaluate the applicant’s work experience and transcripts.   At that time an unofficial Career Development Plan request form will be sent to the College of Education Certification Office.

The Certification Officer will review the application materials and initiate an official “Career Development Plan.”  A copy of the Plan will be mailed to the applicant.  If you have any questions regarding the status of the Plan, contact Ms. Ginny Fender (903)566-9279.
