Texas Examinations of Educator Standards - TExES (formerly ExCET)

Texas requires every person seeking educator certification to perform satisfactorily on comprehensive examinations. These certification examinations are 5 hours each and are administered 4 times per year.

The MRT (Master Reading Teacher) program examination is given at the same times as the TExES exams. A Master Reading Teacher is an individual who holds a Master Reading Teacher Certificate and whose primary duties are to teach reading and to serve as a reading mentor to other teachers. This program will be followed by other Master Teacher areas of study in the near future.
