The GRE General Test measures analytical writing, verbal, and quantitative skills that have been acquired over a long period of time and that are not related to any specific field of study.

GRE Subject Tests measure achievement in specific subject areas and assume undergraduate majors or extensive background in those disciplines. Subject tests may be taken in the following areas: Biochemistry, Cell, and Molecular Biology; Biology; Chemistry; Computer Science; Literature in English; Mathematics; Physics; Psychology. The subject tests are paper and pencil based and last 2 hrs. and 50 min.

It is the responsibility of the student applying for graduate school to check with the graduate department in which they wish to enroll to find out what tests are required by that department.

To register for a GRE Subject Test, you may come by UC 282 to pick up a registration bulletin containing the mail-in registration form.

GRE general tests are given only on the computer. At this time, the closest test site available is Prometric Testing Center at 3200 Troup Highway #216 Tyler, TX (903) 5950652.

For more information on GRE tests, visit GRE online at www.gre.org.

Test preparation books, video tapes, and software for the GRE are available through the Student Services Office.
