Auditions for two one-act operas will be held Thursday, Jan. 12 and Friday, Jan. 13 by The University of Texas at Tyler music department, Dr. Molly Johnson, assistant professor of music and director of the opera workshop, announced.
The auditions will be held 6:30 – 8 p.m. Thursday and 3:30 – 6 p.m. Friday in the Braithwaite Recital Hall of the UT Tyler R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center.
Singers should prepare one aria or art song, and selections may be sung in English or in a foreign language. An accompanist will be provided.
The operas, which will be performed April 7 and 9, are Gianni Schicchi by Giacomo Puccini and The Old Maid and the Thief by Gian Carlo Menotti.
Roles for 19 men and women are available, including roles for character singers. Both operas will be sung in English.
