Franklin L. Yoakum, born in Tennessee, was a college
president
in Cherokee County, Texas, until the Civil War, then Botanist
and
Mineralogist of the Trans-Mississippi Department of the Confederate
States
of America. After the war he engaged with the International &
Great
Northern Railway Company in collecting specimens of products and
minerals
of Texas for exhibition at centennial expositions.
