Spring Break Survival Tips
- Take a break from the usual. Consider an opportunity to volunteer.
- Get plenty of sleep before you start out on the road. If you find yourself getting sleepy, pull over and get some fresh air.
- Always wear your seatbelt.
- Never drive your vehicle after drinking.
- Refuse to ride with a driver who has been drinking. There’s always a safe rescue home. Call a sober friend or a taxi.
- Remember, it is illegal for persons under the age 21 to possess alcohol in all 50 states.
- When you go out, have a plan. Do not let others pressure you into decisions you don’t want to make.
- Go in groups. Watch out for each other and intervene if you see your friend is in a dangerous situation. If you went to a party together, leave the party together. Make sure no one gets left behind.
- Watch your drink. Even non-alcoholic drinks. If you leave a drink alone for even a second, throw it away. It could be drugged.
- Know the laws and policies of your final destination.
- Drink plenty of water and use sunscreen.
- Choose whether or not you will drink, and if you do choose to drink, remember the more alcohol, the more likely a dangerous encounter.
- If a friend drinks too much and passes out, recognize this distress signal and call for help.
- Know Your Sexual Boundaries.
Don’t abandon your sexual values just because you’re on break. If you do choose to be sexually active protect yourself.
