UT Tyler 50th Anniversary

Moving Forward

UT Tyler forged ahead in the 1980s, increasing academic offerings, making more improvements to the campus and creating new traditions. Highlights of the period included the opening of the new Robert R. Muntz Library and establishment of the Endowed Professorship Program, the UT Tyler Distinguished Lecture Series and the Eisenhower International Golf Classic. Also, the men’s tennis team brought home the university’s first national championship, competing in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.
