Security and Personal Safety

The University of Texas at Tyler defines, publishes, and implements policies and procedures designed to ensure appropriate security and personal safety measures for students, faculty, and staff at all instructional locations. These measures are administered through the University Police Department, Environmental Health and Safety Office, Department of Emergency Management, and other institutional offices responsible for campus and workplace safety. University policies address environmental health and safety, emergency preparedness, crime prevention, emergency notification systems, workplace violence prevention, reporting procedures, and personal safety resources available to students and employees.

The UT Tyler Physician Assistant Studies Program adheres to all applicable University safety and security policies and provides program-specific guidance through the UT Tyler Physician Assistant Studies Program Section 8 -Student Protection Policies. This policy outlines safety requirements for campus-based instruction and supervised clinical practice experiences (SCPEs), including environmental health training, emergency preparedness, incident reporting, occupational exposure procedures, clinical site safety expectations, and personal safety responsibilities for students, faculty, and preceptors. The policy also identifies the responsibilities of clinical sites and preceptors to provide orientation to site-specific safety procedures and emergency response plans and establishes expectations for reporting safety concerns, injuries, exposures, harassment, mistreatment, and other incidents.

The Environmental Health and Safety Policy is available to students, faculty, and staff and is reviewed periodically by Program leadership. Compliance is monitored through student orientation, required safety training, clinical site evaluations, affiliation agreements, incident reporting processes, and ongoing review by the Program Director and Director of Clinical Education. Together, these institutional and program policies ensure that appropriate security and personal safety measures are established and maintained in all locations where instruction occurs, consistent with ARC-PA Standard A1.02g.
