The UT Tyler Physician Assistant Studies Program recognizes that students are enrolled for educational purposes and are not employees of the programor affiliated clinical sites by virtue of their student status.
Instructional Faculty Responsibilities
Physician Assistant students must not substitute for or function as instructional faculty. Students may not be assigned responsibility for delivering required course content, independently teaching scheduled program coursework, determining grades, evaluating student performance, making progression decisions, supervising educational activities on behalf of the program, or performing duties assigned to faculty members.
Students may participate in peer-assisted learning, group study activities, presentations, tutoring, mentoring, or educational demonstrations when such activities are voluntary, supervised, and designed to support learning. Participation in these activities does not constitute functioning as instructional faculty.
Administrative Responsibilities
Physician Assistant students must not substitute for or function as administrative staff. Students may not be assigned responsibilities necessary for program administration, accreditation compliance, admissions processing, records management, scheduling, program operations, or other administrative functions that are the responsibility of University employees or program personnel.
Clinical Responsibilities
Physician Assistant students must not substitute for or function as clinical staff. Students may not be used to replace employed personnel, compensate for staffing shortages, fulfill workforce needs, or provide patient care services independent of educational objectives and supervision requirements.
All clinical activities performed by students must be educational in nature, directly related to achievement of program competencies, and completed under appropriate supervision by qualified preceptors and clinical personnel. Students must clearly identify themselves as Physician Assistant students at all times and may perform only those activities permitted by program policy, clinical site policy, and applicable law.
