Communication Studies Undergraduate Program

Degree Requirements

1.    Complete a minimum of 120 hours

2.    Complete the University Core Curriculum (42 hours) with a grade equivalent to "C" or better in each course

3.    Complete a minimum of 42 upper-division hours

4.    Complete the Communication Studies Core (18hrs) during your tenure at UT Tyler. These courses include: CMST 1311, CMST 1315, CMST 2310, CMST 2318, CMST 4315, and CMST 4320

5.    Choose one upper division research methods course (3hours) from CMST 3310 or CMST 3311

6.    Complete 18 upper-division hours within the Communication Studies program

7.    Complete a minor of at least 18hours

8.    Complete at least 24 of the last 30 semester credit hours in residence at UT Tyler

9.    A minimum grade of “C” in all Communication Studies courses

Electives sufficient to meet university requirements.

Minor: At least 18 hrs. in any single related discipline to be chosen in consultation with the student's major advisor. The Communication Studies program offers a minor in the field or in Health Communication

B.A. Option: Twelve to 14 hours of an approved foreign language: The student may also complete this requirement by passing a written examination approved by the foreign language faculty.

B.S. Option: Six hours of mathematics, science, economics, geography and/or computer science, in addition to those otherwise counted as lower-division preparation. These six hours may be taken at the lower- or upper-division.
