Outside Activities - Who is required to report?

Who is Required to Report Outside Activities and Interests in the Portal?

The Decision Matrix identifies who needs to report outside interests and activities in the Portal, and what they need to report.* It is structured to be used in the following order:

Under Category 3 – UT Tyler employees should report the outside activities and interests listed in Category 3, except those exempted under Categories 1 and 2, and except for those carried out wholly outside a faculty member's period of appointment at UT Tyler (usually during the summer for faculty who do not have appointments for the full 12 months of the year).

Under Category 4 – all UT Tyler employees (part-time, full-time, exempt, non-exempt), as well as students and in certain cases outside collaborators and subcontractors, who are engaged in UT Tyler research and sponsored projects should report the outside activities and interests listed in the Matrix. This reporting includes activities and interests of their covered family members.

Under Category 5 – all UT Tyler employees (part-time, full-time, exempt, non-exempt) who are involved in procurement activities should report the outside activities and interests listed in the Matrix. This reporting includes activities and interests of their covered family members.

Under the General Rule – all UT Tyler employees (part-time, full-time, exempt, non-exempt) should report outside activities and interests not covered above, that may reasonably appear, in the eyes of an objective third party observer, to create a conflict of interest or interfere with their University responsibilities. This reporting is to include activities and interests of their covered family members.

*IMPORTANT NOTE: Full-time faculty with no outside activities or interests to report must still login to the Portal during the Annual Disclosure Period, which is January, February, and March each year, and “Report No Activity” for the prior year.
