Biography

Dr. Wingyan Chung is Professor of Computer Science at Soules College of Business in The University of Texas at Tyler. He received his Ph.D. in Management Information Systems from The University of Arizona. Trained in artificial intelligence and information systems, Dr. Chung’s scholarly interests and expertise include business analytics, machine learning, social media analytics, data and text mining, Web analytics, cybersecurity, knowledge management, and human-computer interaction.

Dr. Chung has published over 110 refereed articles in Journal of Management Information Systems, Information & Management, Decision Support Systems, Communications of the ACM, IEEE Computer, Scientific Reports, Journal of the Asso. for Info. Sci. & Tech., and Int’l Conf. on Information Systems, among others. He received over US$7 million in research funding from the US National Science Foundation, US Department of Defense, US Department of Homeland Security, Intel Corporation, P&G, and Florida Center for Cybersecurity, among others. Recognitions include top ranking in BI and analytics, press coverage in ForwardFlorida and SIGCSE, and Senior Member awards from AAAIACM, and IEEE.

Dr. Chung has taught and developed graduate and undergraduate courses in business analytics, machine learning, AI, information systems, social media analytics, and database management. New courses developed by him include Cybersecurity Informatics, Social Simulation and Informatics, and Predictive Analytics.

Prior to joining UT Tyler, Dr. Chung held faculty positions at several institutions including University of Central Florida, UNC Western Carolina University, and University of Texas at El Paso, and had visiting appointments at University of Arizona, University of Hong Kong, and the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
