Teaching and Research Interests

Dr. Astakhova’s teaching interests include Human Resources Management, Leadership, Organizational Behavior, and Quantitative Research Methods. Her research focus is on the areas of person-organization fit, harmonious and obsessive work passion and employee engagement. She is also interested in applications of agent-based simulation and fsQCA (fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis) to study organizational phenomena. Astakhova’s research has appeared in Human Relations, Journal of Business and Psychology, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Managerial Psychology, International Journal of Intercultural Relations, and others. Astakhova serves on the editorial boards of Journal of Organizational Behavior and Service Industries Journal.   

Three of her manuscripts were published in 2013, 2015, 2016, and 2017 Best Paper Proceedings of the Academy of Management. She received Best Poster award (2014) from the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Best Paper Award (2016) and Best Paper Runner-Up Award (2017) from the SIM Division at the Academy of Management. She also published three invited book chapters (on heavy work investment, work passion, and organizational sustainability, respectively). The book Green Organizations: Driving Change with I-O Psychology, in which she co-authored a chapter, received the Organizations and the Natural Environments Division's Book Award (2014) at the Academy of Management. Astakhova received multiple research, teaching, and service awards from the Soules College of Business at the University of Texas at Tyler.  

Biography

Dr. Astakhova has spent 10+ years teaching at the University level both in the United States and abroad. She worked with TACIS, the program sponsored by the European Union, where she assisted local entrepreneurs with business plan writing and evaluation. She also worked as an HR specialist at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. She continues to provide consulting for profit and non-profit U.S. organizations and leads HR client consulting projects with undergraduate and graduate students.

Professor Astakhova began her career as an Assistant Professor at The University of Texas at Tyler in the Fall of 2012. She continues learning how to speak Texan without an accent.
