Teaching and Research Interests
Dr. Cater teaches Entrepreneurship, New Venture Planning, Strategic Management, and
Fundamentals of Management. His major research interests are in family business studies,
small business, entrepreneurship, and case studies. He has published articles in
the Family Business Review, Journal of Family Business Strategy, Journal of Family
Business Management, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Management, Spirituality
& Religion, International Journal of Entrepreneurship & Small Business, Journal of
Developmental Entrepreneurship, Business Horizons, Management Research Review, Human
Resource Development Quarterly, Case Research Journal, and other journals.
Biography
Dr. Cater joined the faculty at UT Tyler in the summer of 2012. Prior to joining the faculty, he was an Assistant Professor of Management at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, LA from 2006 to 2012. He managed his family’s retail furniture business in south Florida before returning to school for his doctoral studies in Management at Louisiana State University. He is a member of the Academy of Management, United States Association of Small Business and Entrepreneurship, and the Family Firm Institute.
