UT Tyler Division of Social Sciences

Geography as a Minor

Geography is the study of the earth as the human home. UT Tyler undergraduates may choose geography as a minor to fulfill academic and career objectives.

The minor familiarizes students in the major concepts of geography and the people, places and cultures as they are found in various regions of the world. Students also learn about physical processes that frame the planet earth.

Up to two courses in the sub-field of geographic information systems (GIS) may be included in the minor. This sub-field equips students for a wide range of challenging professional careers in social science, urban land use planning as well as employment with city, state and federal governments.

The minor in geography requires 18 hours of geography, 12 of which must be upper division. This minor can support majors in social sciences, education, life sciences, mass communication, history and technology.
