Why did you choose to attend UT Tyler?

I chose to attend UT Tyler because the school is very close knit. I attended UT Tyler for my undergraduate program and was very happy with the Department of Civil Engineering. The professors are very helpful and are always ready to help their students succeed. The campus itself is beautiful and has many student resources for both technical and soft skill development. The tuition is affordable and overall my time at UT Tyler has been enjoyable and successful.

What are your career goals and how does your graduate program support them?

I would like to become a structural engineer. Structural engineering is a subdiscipline of civil engineering specializing in design of structural members. I am currently a Graduate Teaching Assistant, which allows me to pursue research under a civil engineering professor specializing in structures. The civil engineering graduate program has helped support my career goals by allowing me to research in my desired subdiscipline and has allowed me to obtain "real world" experience through participation in department projects related to structural engineering.

What do you like most about UT Tyler?

The thing I like most about UT Tyler is the professors. The professors at UT Tyler, and especially so in the Civil Engineering department, genuinely care about the success of their students and it shows. The faculty of the school foster an environment encouraging high academic achievements. I am able to spend extended hours at the university studying each day due to the university providing tools such as study areas, access to food services, tutoring services, and many others. My academic success is directly due to faculty and programs at UT Tyler.
