Why did you choose to attend UT Tyler?

At first I chose to look into UT Tyler's nursing program because of their ratings, but that was not the reason why I applied. When I started looking at programs, I was bound and determined to be part of Texas A&M's Master's of Nursing Education program at College Station, but due to UT Tyler's rating I decided to check the school out. I started by communicating with the faculty about the programs offered and after communicating with Dr. Parker, Dr. Chilton, Dr. Post, and Dr. Hermanns I realized I needed to be at UT Tyler.

These professors were available to me and promptly answered all my questions and gave me great advice on how to proceed in my advance degree options. Their advice helped me decide that I wanted both Informatics and Education and they gave me a way to pursue both tracks. Honestly, if it where not for them I would have taken my acceptance into the A&M program and I am so glad that I chose UT Tyler and their wonderful school of Nursing.

What are your career goals and how does your graduate program support them?

My career goals are to be part of the Master's in Nursing Informatics when it becomes available, with hopes to have a certificate in Nursing Education. I want to teach and inform future nurses about what nursing has to offer and how informatics can help them learn more about the industry.

What do you like most about UT Tyler?

I mentioned before that I like the people in the program. By "people" I mean the students and the faculty. I had the opportunity to be part of the Nursing Camp this past summer and everyone I met just genuinely enjoyed being a part of the Nursing College and had pride for their school and that made me proud to be a part of UT Tyler. Also, Dr. Parker has had a great influence on my involvement in the school and my desire to excel.
