Why did you choose to attend UT Tyler?

Although I was born in East Texas, my path took me across the world and back again before I returned to where I my first began. When approaching the upper division course for my undergraduate degree, I could think of no better population to serve than those here in East Texas. This community raised me. I feel a personal responsibility to take the education and tools provided to me from the esteemed faculty at UT Tyler to contribute to elevating the health statuses of first, our friends and family here in East Texas, and secondly, those across the world.

What are your career goals and how does your graduate program support them?

I plan to contribute significant findings to research in the fields of maternal and child health, early childhood trauma, addiction, and high risk behaviors. I currently contract with different public health entities in East Texas to collect vital information needed for grants and to assure that every dollar received is maximized in program implementation.

With the aid of the phenomenal faculty here, I will be prepared to teach in a higher educational setting after my MS degree is awarded, and be a competitive candidate when applying to PhD programs. I thank UT Tyler not only for creating incredible curriculum and opportunities for students, but for igniting a passion for advancement in our hearts and minds.

What do you like most about UT Tyler?

I love the connections formed with faculty, staff, and students at UT Tyler. I have been to many schools where I was nothing more than another number on a list, but from the moment I stepped foot on campus at UT Tyler, I was viewed in my entirety; as a mother, as a student, as a professional, and a friend. That culture carries over into the online programs as well, so during semesters where I am not required to be physically present on campus, I still feel connected to my classmates, and most importantly, to the bigger picture.

I am proud to be a UT Tyler Patriot, now and forever.
