What attracted you to this field?

To me, mathematics is the only field of human knowledge in which you can be completely certain that what you know is true. Also, there are many surprising facts in mathematics that really defy your intuition and you can never say that you know enough math. There is always something else that you can learn. Finally, there is the aesthetics part of it. Math is beautiful but it takes some studying to be able to appreciate that beauty.

Why did you choose to attend UT Tyler?

Some of the professors at the math department work on things that really interested me. Besides, the campus is beautiful and the city is really great. I wanted to live in a small city for a change.

What do you like most about UT Tyler?

Like I said, some of the professors are really great and I am going to miss their classes and just how helpful and kind they were to me.

Overall the people here were really helpful and friendly. It was also important that I could work on campus while I was studying. That was helpful for getting experience and earning some money too.

What are your career aspirations?

My goal is to get a PhD degree in Mathematics and then get and job in academia.

What's your work experience?

I have worked for the industry developing mathematical models and in academia too.

Do you have any advice to pass along to other students interested in this program?

UT Tyler has some great professors, so take advantage of that and get close to one or two of them. That will help you when it is time to do research and/or find a topic for your thesis.
