Program: Master's of Arts in History

Hometown: Pittsburg, OK

Undergraduate Institution: University of Houston

Graduation Year: 2016

Why did you choose to attend UT Tyler?

I chose to attend to attend UT Tyler because I suspected that the faculty would naturally be much more accessible than what I could expect at a larger program.

What are your career goals and how does your graduate program support them?

My goal is to obtain a PhD in History, and become a professor. The program is helping me achieve this by allowing me to pursue my own study interests with the objective of having some of my work published. The program really emphasizes the importance of being able to work independently for its graduate students, which I think is an indispensable quality for a PhD candidate to possess.

What do you like most about UT Tyler?

For me, the most important quality of the program is the amount of time the professors are willing to invest in the students. Whether you have clearly defined goals, or a vague sense of how you would like to proceed, the professors here will help you carve out a path that reflects your aspirations.
