Matthew HardinStudent Name:  Matthew Hardin

Program: Human Resource Development

Graduated: 2018

Employer: Atlas Oil Co.

Position: Regional Environmental, Health & Safety Manager for Colorado/Wyoming

What attracted you to this field?

Development of people in every way leads to a safer working culture. This fit right into the niche of who I am and what I've been learning through undergrad business and grad HR practices.

Why did you choose to attend UT Tyler?

Proximity to my current role played a large part, but also the way the staff worked with me on scheduling for undergrad as well as grants for grad school.

What do you like most about UT Tyler?

Smaller classrooms, for the most part, lead to more discussion during my time earning a BBA. In grad school, it was the availability of an online program.

What are your career aspirations?

Always to make any team I'm working with the best it can possibly be. A company-wide role would be great.

What's your work experience?

I've managed restaurants, gas stations, truck stops. I ran organic extraction for a laboratory, and ran the organic analysis for a laboratory - outside sales, and finally my current role. I also did some charity work during grad school.

Do you have any advice to pass along to other students interested in this program?

Make sure you are invested in self-learning and want to invest the time to do all the proper readings and projects. A piece of paper is only as powerful as the person behind it.
