Why did you choose to attend UT Tyler?

The School Counseling program at The University of Texas at Tyler has been the perfect fit to help me achieve my goal of becoming a certified School Counselor during this time in my life. I am a military spouse and to find a program that is 100% online, plus the Practicum and Internship semesters has been great.

What are your career goals and how does your graduate program support them?

When I entered the program my goal was to work as a school counselor in the high school setting. My internship site serves students in PreK through twelfth grades, and I love aspects of working with both elementary and secondary levels. The beauty of this program is that it prepares students to earn certifications from Kindergarten through twelfth grades. I love that the door will be open for all levels if I can achieve my goal of graduating!

What do you like most about UT Tyler?

From the start, I have believed that the professors in this program care deeply about preparing future school counselors to meet the needs of students in three main areas of school counseling, which are social-emotional wellness, academic matters, and career. In addition, it has been wonderful to collaborate and learn from my peers who are incredibly invested in preparing for this role that has the potential to help students in important ways.
