Criminal Justice MS

Vanessa McKnightStudent Name: Vanessa McKnight

Program: Criminal Justice

Hometown: San Diego, CA

Undergraduate Institution: UT Tyler

Graduation Year: BA Psychology 2016; Anticipated MS Criminal Justice 2019

Why did you choose to attend UT Tyler?

The location of the university is in an area that is more relaxed and is separated from the busy atmosphere of a major city. I knew that my opportunity to be successful in my academics would be greater if I attended a university that avoided the major city distractions.

What are your career goals and how does your graduate program support them?

My goal is to complete a doctoral program in criminology so that I may have the opportunity to implement positive changes in criminal justice organizations that will demonstrate a greater interest in the individual rather than the organization. The staff on campus has been extremely supportive and enthusiastic of my ideas and my success in the program.

What do you like most about UT Tyler?

It is important to me that I have the ability to travel and experience the outdoors. The living expenses and tuition allow me to have a greater opportunity to travel, and when time doesn't permit for weekend trips Tyler boasts several city trails and state/national parks within a short drive time.
