The minimum graduate admission requirements for The Graduate School are below. Specific programs may have additional requirements.

Application and Fee

An online application for graduate international admission should be submitted through the website, www.applytexas.org.

Note special instructions for applicants in H nonimmigrant status.

Bachelor’s Degree Transcripts or Recognized Comparable

Graduates of recognized academic institutions outside the US should hold a degree comparable to a US bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.

Official transcripts, marks sheets, diplomas, and certificates should be sent to the office of graduate admissions.

Comparability is determined by approved international transcript evaluation service providers. 

Proof of Satisfactory English Proficiency

A minimum score of 79 on the iBT TOEFL; or, minimum IELTS scores of 6.5 overall band score and 6.0 in each subsection; PTE of 53 or, proof of bachelor’s or master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in the US.

NOTE: Psychology applicants must have a minimum TOEFL of 87  or IELTS of 7.0 with 6.5 or greater in each subsection.

The Educational Testing Service (ETS) code for TOEFL for The University of Texas at Tyler is 6850.

GRE or GMAT Scores

The desired minimum GRE score range for most programs is 290-300.

Additional Departmental Requirements

Some programs require additional materials for admission such as letters of recommendation, resume, a statement of purpose, and portfolios.
