UT Tyler announced all summer classes will be online
Classes with labs etc. will be offered in a future term
Based what the VA instructed us to do
We still have to wait to do certifications for summer untill told to do so.
We are working on getting a complete list of classes that were going to be resident (face to face) for Summer 2020.
Those classes and only those classes will be reported as resident hours with a Covid-19 comment.
Returning students who were getting resident BAH/MHA for Spring 2020 at UT tyler are suppose to get resident BAH/MHA
Note Houston, Longview, Tyler classes that were x4x sections still count as online per VA requirements. Even if they combined them with a 001 section and converted it to 06x sections.
Student who were online only and any new UT Tyler students will probably get only the online rate.
Please undersand, we just report the way we are told to report. The VA will determine the pay rate.
We still are not allowed to certify any summer sessions. Normally we would be starting initial certifications for CH33 for anone over half time and not on active duty or the spouse of an active duty service member around mid-april for summer. We spoke to the VA today to confirm we are still holding, and they said to not certify summer untill told to do so.
If delayed, that would delay payments of housing/book stipends/allowances for summer sessions.
This is our projected processing calendar for Summer 2020, but we are waiting for authorization to do initial certs for CH33.
This should not affect CH31 VR&E, at least we have not been told it will, yet.
VA updates are posted below. We have a VA teleconference on Monday but expect it will be much of the same information. It appears we will not be able to legally certify any Summer until at least May 1 as of now. There is a bill being pushed by SVA to help pay Federal VA Work Study students. We have no update yet but know that SVA is working hard to get that done as quickly as possible.
We are committed to staying in touch during this time. We know many veterans can feel like they are alone, and we want you to know that you are very much NOT alone. If you have any needs, let us know so we can see what we can help with.
To meet you where you are, we have set up Twitter for news blasts only (think updates from VA, reminders of sessions in Zoom), Zoom sessions every Monday and Friday to give you updates, some Q and A time, or just a chance to connect, (those links are below), Instagram you will need to watch for some contests (start taking some funny pictures of your bored self or what you are d doing during this uncertain time) and our MVSC Face Book page will be updated as-well-as going live on FB. If you have any other suggestions let us know.
As you all know, classes have moved online for the remainder of the semester. As of now, we see no significant changes to military education benefits. Updates and changes are coming daily. As of today, we are keeping the office open and following social distancing guidelines. All emails and phone calls are being answered. Even if we are forced to shelter in place, we will be able to do most of the work from home.
To help you stay up to date, we have redesigned the Military and Veterans Success Center Face Book page found here: https://www.facebook.com/UT-Tyler-Military-and-Veterans-Success-Center-1940741462603291/ Go to the page and give it a like for the latest as we get it.
