Applied Studies
UT Tyler School of Performing Arts
At UT Tyler, experienced music faculty instruct and guide the technical and artistic
growth of today's students, soon to be tomorrow's artists and teachers. All students
seeking a Bachelor of Music or Bachelor of Arts degree in Music take applied studies (private lessons) with an assigned faculty member in their instrument
area, voice, or composition. Applied studies are also available to music minors.
Applied studies include weekly private lessons and group masterclasses, culminating
in junior and/or senior recitals (depending on specific major requirements). Music
majors also experience on-going solo performance opportunities by participation in
shared departmental Student Recitals given throughout each semester.
Talent Awards
All music majors in applied studies, as well as any UT Tyler student regardless of major who wishes to participate in a choral or instrumental ensemble, may qualify to receive a Talent Award (Scholarship). Students must audition for an award during the spring prior to intended enrollment. Awards are generally renewable.
