Enhancing Education
UT Tyler Awarded Gift from CTCU to Support East Texas Teachers
UT Tyler recently received a $14,000 gift as part of a collaboration between its School of Education and Cooperative Teachers Credit Union.
The gift supports the East Texas Center for School Based Research and Instruction in providing professional development and other support to member school districts.
“Gifts like these provide the financial support to further enhance teacher professional development in East Texas,” said Dr. Wesley Hickey, dean of the UT Tyler College of Education and Psychology.
The $14,000 will fund upcoming 2021 center projects designed to provide resources to help meet critical educational needs in area schools and communities. Projects include a “bootcamp” for new teachers to help them be successful in the classroom, a rural schools symposium, the annual school law conference and seminar-style events called “ED Talks.”
“As a community credit union, our membership extends much further, but our passion has always been, is now, and will always be centered on educators,” said Matt Horton, CTCU vice president of marketing and business development. “We believe in the purpose of the East Texas Center for School Based Research and Instruction, and we are happy to support their efforts as a resource for local educators and school districts.”
Since 2019, CTCU has supported the center with gifts totaling $40,000. The center currently has 22 member districts from across the region.
