Making Connections for Career Success

Russo Relishes Role as UT Tyler Career Success Coach

RussoAmy Russo has experienced and learned much from her time in the marketing and business realms. From assisting in a General Mills’ Old El Paso marketing research project that led to the birth of “chunky” salsa, to giving feedback on the early home computers with Texas Instruments, to becoming a branch manager for the international elevator company, ThyssenKrupp Elevator, she has had a remarkable career in industry.

The Sulphur Springs native was also instrumental in the startup of the graduate academic advising office for UT Tyler’s College of Business and Technology. As the college grew into what is now the Soules College of Business, Russo jumped at the opportunity to return as its career success coach. Successful connections of UT Tyler students and alumni with employer partners are what makes her workdays worthwhile.

“It’s some of the most fulfilling work I’ve ever been blessed to do,” Russo, a self-proclaimed “connector,” said. “And, the enterprising part of my personality is satisfied through the employer connections that I’m able to develop to help propel students into their careers.”

The position also allows her to work with all the UT Tyler populations she loves – not only students and alumni – but also the faculty and staff from the Soules College of Business.

“This college is blessed with the most dedicated administration, faculty and staff who truly care about the progress and outcomes of our students and alumni,” she said. “So many of the faculty here have already developed great relationships with employers, and they help our students connect with employers as well.”

A state licensed real estate broker and certified special education K-12 teacher, Russo holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in marketing from UT Austin. She also conducted post-graduate studies in both human resource development and counseling at UT Tyler.
