Students Selected to State Med School Prep Program

Woolman, Schaefer and CroweThree UT Tyler Pre-Med Academy students have been selected to participate in the Joint Admission Medical Program (JAMP), which was created by the Texas Legislature to support and encourage highly qualified, economically disadvantaged Texas students who are pursuing a degree in medicine. This is the first time three students from UT Tyler have been selected in a single cohort for JAMP.

UT Tyler students selected are:

  • Connor Crowe – Jacksonville, Texas, biology major and Presidential Fellow
  • Wyatt Schaefer – Marietta, Texas, biochemistry major and Honors Student
  • Bethany Woolman – Pasadena, Texas, music major and Presidential Fellow

“We congratulate these outstanding students, all of whom represent the university extremely well,” said Dr. Neil Gray, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. “We look forward to helping them launch their medical careers and watching them develop into exceptional physicians.”

Funded by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, JAMP is a partnership between 11 Texas medical schools and 70 public and private four-year undergraduate institutions.biology class

Successful students will receive stipends during their UT Tyler career and are guaranteed direct admission to one of the Texas medical schools with significant tuition assistance, academy director Dr. Rachel Mason said, noting that many JAMP students finish medical school debt free.
