Mitchell Campbell of Tyler, a junior at the University Academy Tyler campus, placed first regionally in the 2021 Texas Citizen Bee and will once again represent Region 7 in the state finals May 18–19.

This is the second consecutive year that Campbell placed first in Region 7 and competed in the state competition. Last year, he finished in the top five and was the first UA scholar to advance to state.

“We are very proud of Mitchell advancing to the Texas Citizen Bee state competition for the second year in a row,” said Aimee Dennis, campus director. “We commend this achievement and are excited for him to represent our school and region at the next phase of the competition.”

About 50 students participate in the annual spelling bee. The event is open to all schools and students in Grades 9-12. One student from each of the 20 educational regions go on to state.

The state Education Service Center’s Region 7 serves 95 school districts and seven charter schools in 17 East Texas counties.

Congratulations, Mitchell!
