The University of Texas at Tyler School of Performing Arts is a few steps closer to becoming an All-Steinway School, Dr. Martin Slann, College of Arts and Sciences dean, announced.

Steinway is the world's leader in producing high-quality pianos for music education. With this designation, UT Tyler will offer the best instruments available for student practice, study and learning. "We believe it will indicate a commitment to quality and enhancing the student experience," said school director Dr. Michael Thrasher. "We also expect that it will help attract more music students to UT Tyler."

The All-Steinway School Initiative for the School of Performing Arts is nearly complete. Opportunities to give towards the initiative are still available.

"The university only lacks $136,000 in piano equipment and $125,000 in an endowed scholarship needed to maintain and service the pianos," added senior development officer Whitney King. To give, call 903.566.7384.

Currently, there are about 186 All-Steinway Schools worldwide. Only a few are in Texas. Among All-Steinway school privileges, UT Tyler will have the right to reserve the Steinway auditorium in Manhattan for any university meetings, alumni events or other activities.
