The University of Texas at Tyler announced it has received $25,000 from the Texas Retailers Education Foundation to enhance marketing education in East Texas.

The grant will fund UT Tyler's first residential retail marketing summer camp in 2019 for East Texas high school students. The proposed weeklong event will combine on-campus academic activities with tours of area food production facilities, distribution centers and retail businesses.

"We are so excited to be able to offer for the first time in the Soules College of Business a summer camp for high school students who are interested in learning about career opportunities with a UT Tyler marketing degree," said Dr. Kerri Camp, UT Tyler Soules College of Business associate dean.

Regional partners in this endeavor include Tyler Independent School District, Cavender's, Brookshire Grocery Co. and John Soules Foods, Inc.

"Thanks to the Texas Retailers Education Foundation's support, East Texas high schoolers will be able to experience the UT Tyler campus while becoming exposed to the many avenues of retail marketing, including business analytics and category management," said Dr. Krist Swimberghe, UT Tyler Department of Management and Marketing chair. "We're working hand-in-hand to help prospective UT Tyler students gain a successful career in retail marketing. In fact, many of our students take jobs before they even graduate because of the vast number of partnerships we have with industries here in East Texas."

As UT Tyler's largest college, the Soules College of Business continues to experience significant growth with nearly 2,700 students enrolled. The college's unique IMM360 marketing curriculum provides students with hands-on experience with category management, retail consumer data and retail management concepts.
